Manga – Storyboard

presented by Nightmaker

Draw your own manga!

Have you already gained experience in drawing and worked intensively on the topic of storytelling? Your own manga story is already in the starting blocks, but there is one last hurdle: the storyboard.

A manga is not just about beautiful drawings and a well thought-out plot. A crucial component is the storyboard or paneling.

  • How many panels belong on one page?
  • What size should the content of the panels be?
  • How often do backgrounds have to be inserted?
  • Where do the speech bubbles go?
  • What does it mean to panel in “flow”?
  • What rules are there for different genres such as shojo manga or shonen manga?
  • And how can a scene in which characters are simply talking be designed in such a way that it doesn’t seem boring?

This workshop will answer all these questions and more. The structure of the workshop envisages that we will first look at a “flawed manga”, which we will analyze together. At the end of the workshop, you will not only improve this, but also walk away with the knowledge of how to turn your own story into manga.
