Cosplay Photo Contest

Cosplay Photo Contest in cooperation with:

We are particularly fond of the stories behind your pictures, and we would like to use this year’s cosplay photo competition to offer them a stage.

We have always offered you to send us a small text with your pictures to help our judges understand and evaluate your pictures, but now we dare to take the step and make these texts an essential part of the competition.

Under the title “The perfect shot”, this time we would like to choose the entry that presents us with the best photo as well as the best oneshot, i.e. short story, as the winner.

The text that accompanies your picture is now actively included in the evaluation and will be exhibited together with your pictures.

Categories/rating:

  • Less is more (or, the 5 minute edit)
Your photo is almost perfect out of cam, but just today you had a pimple that couldn’t be covered with any make-up in the world?
    No stress, go away.
You’ve taken the perfect photo, everything fits, the location, the pose, the facial expressions, the light, it’s fantastic…but in this one photo, Grandma Hildegard is taking her evening walk in the background? The grandma becomes the mending tool’s undoing. The picture has become slightly too bright in the rush? We won’t eat you up for the one slider that is pushed into Photoshop.
  • We have found that some pictures often don’t make it to Out of Cam competitions because the photographer and cosplayer are not happy with them due to such small details, so instead of an Out of Cam category we prefer to make a Minimal Edit category, we don’t want to see wild edits here, a touch up here and there is absolutely okay, but basically it should be close to an Out of Cam category, just with the freedom to fix small flaws.
  • More is more
Do we need to say much more? Whatever is fun is allowed, 10 tons of Photoshop are no problem, push your programs to their limits, unpack the overlays and brushes, work for hours on the most beautiful gradient conversions, just show us your great editing skills!

Your photo will only be judged in combination with a short story, we hope that this will be seen as an opportunity to send us pictures that you always thought were full of story, but that might not have had the right competition to enter. With your short story, it doesn’t matter whether it’s your own idea or not.
or a re-write of an existing scene, i.e. your picture can show a scene that never existed in the original medium, and your text can tell exactly about it, but your picture can also be a scene that you have recreated exactly like this from the original medium, which you then
independently described in a text.

General rules:

  1. The photo must show at least one cosplayer. OC’s are allowed as long as the person is clearly recognizable as being in costume.
  2. Keep it nice. Photos/stories that glorify violence, contain discriminatory, overly sexualized or otherwise questionable elements are excluded from the competition.
  3. Please submit the image as a JPG, there are no size specifications, but everyone should be aware that the better the quality, the better the chances of placement.
  4. Please send the text as a PDF.
  5. Some may feel intimidated by the word “short story” for fear of submitting a short book, we assure you we value quality over quantity, a high quality text that is perhaps only the length of a drabble rather than a oneshot can achieve just as good a rating as a longer text.
  6. By submitting the photo/story, the participant gives his/her consent.
Consent that HanamiCon may use and publish the image/text for the event and on social media.
  7. The rights of any material used must be owned by the creator or be royalty-free, meaning stock material is allowed as long as you have created it or legally acquired it or it is available royalty-free.
  8. In addition to the submitted image, we also ask for the original (JPG or RAW), which helps us to see and appreciate the extent of your editing.
  9. Both photographers and cosplayers may take part; by submitting the picture you confirm that you have obtained permission from the other party.
If your oneshot has been written by a third party, the consent of this party must be obtained and sent along.
  10. AI-generated texts are excluded from the competition.
  11. Each participant may submit 1 picture/story per category.
  12. We accept submissions in both German and English.
  13. Please use a permanent upload and not a temporary one. Our judges will access the pictures on the day of the evaluation via the link you have provided, if your link has already expired they will not have access to your picture. Please also make sure that access is permitted, i.e. public, so that we can access the images without having to wait for confirmation of any access requests.

Please send us your entries via a permanent upload.
Please send your entries to cosplayfoto@hayuko.at , we look forward to your active participation!
The closing date for entries is 08.05.2024 at 23:59
